The Iphone X-pensive

On Tuesday, September 12th, the tech giant, Apple, announced its new line of products. After months of anticipation, Apple consumers received info on the new Iphones, the new Apple Watch series, the new update for Apple TV, and the new Air Pods. The thing that the consumers were most hyped about was the Iphone X, Apple’s attempt at creating an Iphone to mark its 10th anniversary. The aspect of this gadget that stirred the most controversy was its price. With a whopping price starting at $1000, everyone showed great disapproval. Why should a smartphone be priced at $1000?
Its features aren’t as impressive as we had hoped but still didn’t disappoint with its futuristic new look. For a $1000 device, we would have expected a holographic futuristic phone. The only evident changes we have seen on this phone the bigger full OLED screen, enhanced camera, and the introduction of face detection, which if proven successful can become very useful. The problem with the full screen display is the elimination of the home button. The home button was very useful because it initiated many commands. Tap once- app closes, tap twice- all apps currently on are shown, tap thrice- the option to invert colors and give other effects to the screen, hold down- siri is summoned. It will take awhile to get used to the absence of the beloved home button.
Another improved feature that might prove handy is the new enhanced camera. On both sides, front and back, Apple has made them better to take photos with. Iphone X has a huge focus on improving selfies, with several features added to portrait mode with a 3D scanner to detect your face better. Picture quality has increased and allowed you to take even more amazing shots. The only downside about the updated camera is the new look. Many were dissatisfied with the camera tilted vertically instead of horizontally, which made it a very unattractive feature.
Setting the price tag of the new phone at such a high price will only set a precedent for future phones. As we have seen in the past, the price has increased with every phone that has been released. For example the Iphone 6 was around $200-$400, the Iphone 7 was around $500-$600, and now the Iphone 8 is $700-$950. We are complaining about an $1000 phone, yet what will we do when future phones are priced higher than $2000.
If the price does continue to increase it will become a problem for lower wage and middle class consumers who desire to attain an Iphone. Even with the plans that various carriers are offering, quite a lot of money will come out of your pocket.This phone was priced for the wealthy only to boost Apple’s finance.
You would think Apple would learn by now that consumers want the headphone jack back. After last years announcement about the extermination of the headphone jack, many Apple consumers were unhappy. Many hoped that it would come back in the next few Iphones, but now it seems it will never happen.
If you have a more recent phone ranging from a 6 to the 7 or 8 then you could probably wait a year or two before replacing your phone. There is no hurry to get the latest gadget, especially when its price could go over $1000. The Iphone X is really just a regular phone with a different look and a better camera. As we can see Apple is now running low on ideas and needs to come out with something revolutionary, just like their founder, Steve Jobs, did. At this rate, Apple’s competitors are rising above them with improved technology but as always, Apple will always have a long line of consumers. The prices will only rise from here on and Apple phones may go from an item most of the population has to a luxury item owned by the wealthy. The Iphone X will release on November 3rd and will either be a huge success or a great disappointment.
