From Hiya, News Team ContributorThis week, we interviewed one of our favorite Pleasanton downtown businesses— Inklings Coffee and Tea. They shared their inspiring journey and revealed some great business tips!1. When did you start your business?
The idea of Inklings was birthed over a decade ago from long-time Pleasanton residents and members of Valley Community Church, many years before it even had its name. The idea was to create a large event space where the community could gather for music, art, debate, and conversation. It was never in the plan to be right in downtown Pleasanton, but the old Round Table Pizza became available at just the right time and was a perfect mix of event and coffee shop space. At the time, Inklings was open at Valley Community Church on Sundays as a pour-over coffee bar. It was then built out to be a full-service coffee and tea shop and moved downtown. Inkling’s opened its doors in 20162. Why did you decide to start this type of business?
We created Inklings Coffee & Tea to help open the eyes of our city to the wonder surrounding us every day. Our mission is to seek the good of our customers, our neighbors, our city and our community, which comes in many forms—from simply offering a smile and a cup of coffee, to holding fundraisers, events, recovery groups, and concerts.3. Regarding obstacles, what advice would you give someone else wanting to start a business here in Pleasanton?
Definitely plan ahead and decide what direction(s) you want to go in. Having a good plan and persevering through the challenges is important. Don’t give up on your dreams.4. Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Hopefully continuing to serve our wonderful community through great coffee, food, and service and fun community events. We would love to continue to be involved in growing and bettering our surrounding community. From hosting multiple events for PTown (Remember Open Mic Night?!) to serving delicious coffee, Inklings definitely holds a special place in PTown’s heart.
