The Annual Mr. Foothill Pageant
If you’re a Foothill student and have been approached by someone trying to sell you a candy cane and you don’t know why… this article might give you some answers.24 Foothill senior boys were selected a couple weeks ago as the preliminary representatives for the annual Mr. Foothill pageant. Mr. Foothill is a male pageant show put on for the Foothill student body and beyond to raise money for the school activities. The 24 candidates were asked to sell candy cane grams for $2 each. The top 12 sellers would subsequently make the top 12 for the pageant.
After they have been selected, the 12 contestants are asked to represent a month and do a photoshoot for promotion. They also sell pins with their faces on them to promote even more. At the actual pageant, contestants perform a talent and the contestant with the highest bid wins the whole thing. The majority of this year’s money raised will be used for reducing ticket prices for senior ball later in the year.
Alex Yang, a top 12 contestant, mentioned that “the real gem you can get out selling the candy canes is how you are marketing yourself.” He expanded that “Mr. Foothill is really about who you are as a person and how you can represent Foothill as a student as a member of the community” and that “your mindset and sharing a confident dream [is what] rallies people to support you.” Lastly, he stressed that “people have come to Mr. Foothill to see how their community is represented and to be inspired to represent the community in their own unique ways.”
As a top 12 contestant myself, I can say I’m really looking forward to the pageant. It will be taking place in February with an official date coming soon. Come with your pockets full for a guaranteed good time!
