Calling all bibliophiles, it’s that time of the year for banned books! Celebrating the power of ideas and expression, librarians, teachers, publishers, poets, artists, writers, and readers alike will be delving back into the blacklisted books of the past and present, seeking the new perspectives that each has to offer.
With a strong kick off from the AVHS band with their whimsical pun, the Banned Books Week is filled with opportunities to communicate your love of reading to the world. The process is fairly simple:
- Take a video of you and/or friends (with parents’ permission if applicable) reading a short excerpt from one of your favorite Banned Books.
- Add the hashtag #BannedBooksWeek
- Post on social media and have fun watching other readers around the world participate
In addition, feel free to enjoy the public display downtown at the Towne Center Books and the Banned Books section at the Pleasanton Library, all dedicated to this annual event. They’re selected especially for everyone’s enjoyment. It’s the time to let out your passion for reading, so don’t hold back on this amazing opportunity.
