On many mornings of the school year, Amador Valley High School students wish we had just one more hour to sleep in. In the 2017-18 school year, we may have just that.
There is a likely chance that the board has decided to change the schedule for classes next year. This change will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, while the rest of the school days (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays) will remain the same. Wednesdays and Thursdays will begin at 8:50 AM instead of the normal start time of 8:01 AM. In addition, Wednesdays and Thursdays will have a collaboration schedule, taking odd periods (periods 1, 3, and 5) on Wednesday and even periods (periods 2, 4, and 6) on Thursday. This will allow for a longer duration of class for both days.
What’s even more exciting is that Wednesdays and Thursdays will include and “Access” period: 40 minutes of time to catch up on homework, get tutoring from a teacher of a class you are struggling with, make up quizzes or tests, or even just to sit and do some leisure reading. This 40-minute period will be held in the classroom of a teacher you already are assigned to, so it will be in a familiar classroom and environment. The access period teacher will only take attendance, and the rest is up to you. Passes will be needed to go to different classrooms to make up work. The only disadvantage to this change is that Wednesday and Thursday school days will end at 3:11 PM instead of the normal end time of 3:01 PM, but this is a small price to pay for all the benefits that are gained from this improvement.
Look out for these changes in the next school year, and sleep tight!
