- From Kanchan, News Team ContributorPleasanton’s teen community is brimming with talented artists, from musicians sharing a high school stage to poets and writers working wonders on paper. And these creative students deserve both an outlet to share their passion as well as the recognition that they rightfully deserve. Hence, introducing YEA! The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council presents the 2020 Youth Excellence in Arts (YEA) Awards Competition. These awards honor Pleasanton high school students who have excelled in the areas of music, visual arts, and literary arts. The purpose of the YEA Awards is to support the development of young artists in the local community. All finalists will have the opportunity to present their work or perform a live audition before a judge (or judges).Auditions for this year’s competition will take place Sunday March 29 (12:00 to 5:00 PM) at The Parkview Assisted Living at 100 Valley Ave, Pleasanton, 94566.
As a writer and visual artist myself, I would recommend applying to these awards, as they help create a valuable network between teen artists across the city. YEA also helps enhance other skills, such as public speaking, that we’ll take with far beyond high school. And if that doesn’t convince you to apply, perhaps the cash rewards will! That’s right, you heard it — prizes include $750 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd, and $300 for 3rd place in each category.
Before applying, please keep these guidelines in mind, however:
Applicants must be 14-18 years old and attend a Pleasanton high school. In addition, they must must be available on Sunday, March 29 to attend the audition for this year’s competition. If you’re interested in applying to YEA, submit an online application here!
