It was a beautiful, sunny morning November 5th, and lots of dogs and their humans were present to enjoy the happy occasion of the Cubby’s Dog Park’s dedication and opening. Kyle Mular, a senior at Foothill High School and one of this year’s City of Pleasanton Teen Poet Laureates, took part in this auspicious event. He was honored to participate in the ceremony and recite a poem that he composed especially for the event. His original poem follows. Enjoy it, and be sure to have your dog bring you to this park to enjoy a pleasant afternoon!
A dog’s life
Our dear friend.
Some are born heroes,
Some are made heroes,
Many are even bred heroes.
Even when born into a litter
Of clones and look-a-likes
Being the runt of them all
Will not stop him.
He’ll grow to serve another kind
Another species
To be a hero for anybody
Willing to be a friend.
In dog years,
He was the greatest,
Half as long, twice as bright.
In human years
He was the best friend anybody could have
-Kyle Mular, 2016
