Pleasanton Unified School District is starting the 2017-18 school year with a new superintendent, David Haglund. Haglund is coming from Santa Ana Unified School District, where he helped supervise academic programs. Prior, Haglund worked in the Riverside School District, serving as both the director of educational options and assistant superintendent of instructional support. Haglund has also taught social studies in Rilato Unified School District.
As one of 20 original candidates for the position, Haglund was selected as one of three finalists who were first interviewed by a panel of community members and then individually by the board. On July first, 2017, he officially came into office. Upon further inspection throughout the 2017-18 year, the school board will decide if Haglund’s contract shall be extended a second year.
